I received the new one-piece DYN-UP wetsuit from C4 Carbon Freediving, developed in collaboration with Umberto Pellizzari. This model, made of glide skin neoprene, is specifically designed for dynamic freediving in pools.
Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the use of neoprene panels with different thicknesses. Thicker in the central areas—back, chest, and legs up to the knees—to ensure warmth during training. Extremely thin in other areas—neck, arms, legs below the knees, and sides.
The design immediately caught my attention, being decidedly more feminine compared to other wetsuits I’ve used.
Holding it, I noticed the slightly heavier weight. However, gloves for dressing were not included in the packaging, which I consider essential, so I used my own.
The wetsuit has excellent finishes, with a compact and ultra-soft lining that makes it easy to wear. Ankles and legs slide in smoothly, even up to the knees, where the 2-millimeter neoprene begins—also very elastic. I’m slightly skeptical about the choice of cutting the neoprene below the knee (0.5 millimeters) from the part above (2 millimeters). I would have preferred a shorter cut or a seamless transition with a single color, as I can feel the separation out of the water.
Once the legs are on, the wetsuit pulls up effortlessly. The same goes for the section from the hips to the chest, though it feels slightly thicker in the crotch area compared to the 1.5-millimeter models I usually wear. However, it provides warmth and good elasticity.
In the upper part, I don’t notice any separation between the different types of neoprene from the forearm to the shoulder—they blend seamlessly. I prefer the matte black color on this part to the two-tone legs. The idea of bartacks near the wrists is excellent, allowing for sleeve length customization while avoiding stitching issues.
I am quite tall and wear a medium size. Until now, all dynamic wetsuits have been short on me, but this one maintains ideal proportions thanks to the customizable sleeves. I particularly appreciate the lightweight neoprene used on the sides, as it enhances the fit for women with a larger bust. This significantly reduces the compression I’ve felt with other wetsuits, even though the 2-millimeter neoprene returns at the chest center.
I zip up the back, which is not very long and therefore easy to close. The lining accompanying the zipper, with a saltwater-resistant metal slider, is thin and doesn’t snag during closure.
The neck area features two neoprene sections: around the strap with velcro, the material is thicker to ensure a watertight seal, while underneath, in the décolleté, it returns to 0.5 millimeters for freer movement and breathing.
I’m ready for my water training session. I pair the wetsuit with the C4 Dyno collar, black, weighing 4 kilograms—a perfect complement to any freediving suit. It provides stability and balance for optimal buoyancy control.
Underwater, the discomfort caused by the seams joining the two parts above and below the knee almost disappears. At the starting push, I feel a thin line of water entering. During underwater breaststroke, the medium-density, elastic-memory neoprene gives me a pleasant sense of freedom, allowing natural movements and smooth gliding without feeling restricted.
The feeling under the neck, in the décolleté area, where the 0.5-millimeter neoprene is, is delightful. In the water, it feels like I’m wearing nothing.
The sides not only enhance the design but also facilitate arm movements. When stretching my arms forward, I feel no pressure or restriction on my shoulders.
My session lasted an hour, and even during breaks, I didn’t feel the slightest cold. These impressions were confirmed during other pool sessions.
In summary, the DYN-UP by C4 is a wetsuit I highly recommend for competitive use and in warm seas.
