When a product is developed by Umberto Pelizzari, reading its details becomes an adventure, scanning those particulars that might hide some fantastic little surprises. The first thing that stands out when observing the new DYN-UP wetsuit by C4 is a more vivid color compared to the previous and already beautiful Sideral model.
As soon as I begin to touch it, I notice almost nonexistent thickness. The neoprene is smooth and extremely soft, while the lined interior appears durable with good elastic retention.
Putting it on
It’s always recommended to use a sock or a plastic bag to help slide the foot or hand into the suit. The wetsuit fits well and allows for a firm grip, even in areas where the alternating thickness is 0.5 mm (legs, arms, hips, and neck). Since it’s a pre-compressed neoprene, it feels different and particularly durable compared to regular ones.
The areas with greater thickness (2 mm) are the back, chest, and thighs. Once on, you can really feel the warmth in these more capillary areas.
One element I really appreciate is the reduced number of panels, ensuring better thermal retention and optimizing the fit. But the attention to detail doesn’t stop there. In fact, while the external seams might seem weak at first glance, simply flipping the wetsuit over reveals internal bands that provide support to the various joints of the foam.
The Test
In dynamic apnea, the positive buoyancy becomes complementary with the C4 lead weights. This isn’t by chance; rather, it’s a well-thought-out solution, where the 2 mm neoprene thickness matches the areas of the body that sink with the Dyno (the collar weight). Legs and arms remain relatively neutral, more free in movement.
As always, less neoprene means less weight. Certainly, the DYN-UP is less suitable for the marked thermocline layers of the Mediterranean, but there’s still the curiosity to try it in warmer seas, where the temperature remains constant and where you can sacrifice a bit of warmth in exchange for less weight to carry back to the surface!
Conclusions
The DYN-UP is a wetsuit that showcases all the passion and drive to bring something new to those who make this sport their way of life. It’s beautiful, almost philosophical, to observe products that don’t settle for market standardization, but instead, try to offer something more, something different, something that expresses a thought process that focuses on those who truly practice freediving.
