In recent years, the world of carbon fins has undergone a real revolution: lightness, comfort, and performance have become the new standard. But C4, true to its pioneering spirit, has decided to raise the bar even further.
With the MB project, a new generation of fins is born—destined to mark a new era. Among them, the MB001 stands out as the pinnacle of a research and development journey that blends advanced biomechanics, cutting-edge materials, and now, the brand-new 2025 camouflage design, developed to enhance performance in open water—even in the clearest conditions.
We had already published a review of the MB001 when it first hit the market in April 2023, in the non-camouflage version.
The heart of this fin is the new Reverse Parabolic curve, an innovation that radically changes how the blade works in the water. Thanks to a lamination scheme born from years of testing and experimentation, the flex is no longer concentrated at the tip but distributed back toward the foot pocket. This results in uniform, consistent thrust, capable of utilizing a larger water surface area, delivering both power and fluidity with every kick—without overloading the muscles.
In short, it’s a major upgrade, a distinctive technical signature instantly recognizable—that of Marco Bonfanti, who successfully fused innovation and reliability into this blade.
The 250 foot pocket is the other key element of the project. Incredibly lightweight (only 250 grams), it has been redesigned for absolute comfort and stability. The 75 ShA TPE material ensures a natural, soft fit, while the rigid insole optimizes power transmission. The 3-degree preformed angle reduces foot workload, improving efficiency in every finning cycle. A quick-release mounting system with M6 screws completes the package—ideal for frequent travelers or those who switch between sea and pool training.
But the real aesthetic and functional revolution is the new 2025 camouflage. We're not talking about simple stickers applied post-production: the pattern is integrated directly into the blade’s layers using ultra-thin special films. The result is a pattern that resists impact and wear, without adding weight or stiffness to the blade, and above all, featuring a natural optical effect, designed to make the spearfisher truly invisible.
Note that each blade is unique; every one features digitally hand-painted color combinations for extraordinary camouflage. In the water, the MB001 breaks up the body’s outline and blends with the seabed—whether among posidonia meadows or light/dark rocks.
We tested the MB001 Camo Skin Med/Ocean in various conditions: calm waters, strong currents, and even sudden murkiness. From the very first dives—between 15 and 20 meters—the sensation was clear: a reactive, powerful, and surprisingly light fin.
As the hours passed and we dove deeper, the feeling became more natural. The +30 stiffness, which initially raised concerns about potential fatigue, turned out to be perfectly balanced, delivering a strong, "gapless" push during ascent—even during the kick-off phase.
Then we moved to shallow waters, and again, the fin passed with flying colors. Despite the large blade size (980 mm), maneuverability was excellent. The rounded-profile water rails ensured stable trajectories even with persistent wave motion, while the 250 foot pocket maintained outstanding comfort and circulation, even after hours of continuous use.
After nearly 100 dives in a single day, fatigue was minimal, and there was no discomfort in the feet. The only visible sign of the intense work were some scratches on the blade—unavoidable when diving among rocks—but nothing that affected performance.
In Summary the MB001 Camo Skin Med/Ocean is more than just a fin—it’s a true reinterpretation of tradition: technical, comfortable, elegant, and functional.
It’s the perfect choice for those who want versatility without sacrificing high-level performance, adapting equally well to deep dives and long shallow-water sessions.
A reliable adventure companion that never lets you down.
Pros & Cons
Pros
